If you cant do that then you could try setting up some sort of two factor authentication. To do what you want it would be much safer to setup a VPN and only allow connections via that to your critical infrastructure. I would recommend a call to Apple (they will help you over the phone generally, depending on how old your Mac is and whether or not you have Apple Care.) Alternatives: a visit to your local Mac shop (there aren't many, but there are some) or a visit to your local Apple Store. You cant do this because MAC addresses arent available to you for connections that have traversed the internet. If these don't work, you might have a legitimate hardware issue. After a few seconds, you should see "connected" and clicking on the interface will show you your IP address. not be established because the remote server is not responding On your computer.
